Born Ephraim Lewis on 27 November 1967 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, the late neo-soul artist Ephraim Lewis left behind one album before his life was tragically cut short. On 18 March 1994, he died after falling from a balcony after being tasered during a police pursuit, with only one album to his name. He was just 26. Released in 1992 on Eletkra, Skin, the one album he gifted to the world, achieved acclaim via the title track, which was featured on the soundtrack to the Whoopi Goldberg and Ted Danson-starring Made in America film in 1993. The video for “It Can’t Be Forever” received MTV airplay while the album also yielded a single in "Drowning in Your Eyes." Skin went on to sell over 100,000 copies worldwide. The circumstances surrounding his death were controversial; he was reportedly tasered by the police after they responded to calls of a disturbance at the LA apartment complex in which he was staying. He then fell to his death from the fourth-floor balcony, leading some people to challenge the police department's account of events. The coroner ruled it as a suicide. However, an investigation was never carried out.
