Biografie

Born on January 20, 1973 in Villefranche-sur-Saône, France, Benjamin Biolay has become one of the country’s most respected modern artists. His list of accomplishments include singer, songwriter, musician, arranger, author, and actor. His musical talents are often compared to French legend Serge Gainsbourg and has worked with Henri Salvador, Françoise Hardy, Keren Ann, Juliette Gréco, Vanessa Paradis, Isabelle Boulay, and others. Benjamin made his recorded debut with his band Le Matéo Gallion on the 1994 release Live au Barbar. His next album, Rose Kennedy, was released in 2001 and was a critical and commercial success. During this period, he also co-wrote and performed on the first two albums by Keren Ann – La Biographie de Luka Philipsen (2000) and La Disparation (2002). Biolay’s next three albums – Négatif (2003), À l'Origine (2005), and Trash Yéyé (2007) – all entered the Top 20 in the French charts. His 2009 album, La Superbe, was his award-winning commercial breakthrough, rising to Number 3 in the charts. He also gained attention for his supporting role in the film Stella. In 2011, he played the lead role and provided music to the film Pourquoi tu pleures? He continued to record solo albums including Vengeance (2012), Palermo Hollywood (2016), and Volver (2017) as well as collaborate with other artists including Nicolas Fiszman, Denis Benarrosh, and Melvil Poupaud. In 2020, he released the thematic Grand Prix album.
