Biografie

An American singer/songwriter who specializes in empathetic sketches of characters in difficult times of their life, Courtney Marie Andrews was born November 7, 1990 in Phoenix, Arizona. Andrews began writing songs as a teenager and set about trying to play live wherever she could, eventually finding herself in Los Angeles. She found success as a backup singer and guitarist for established acts and struck out on her own with the 2008 album Urban Myths. She also became an auxiliary member of Jimmy Eat World, a gig which helped pay for early solo work like 2009’s Painters Hands and a Seventh Son and 2010’s No One’s Slate Is Clean. A months long stint supporting Milow in Belgium led to some profound homesickness, as well as the songs that would appear on her 2016 breakthrough album Honest Life. Loaded with tales of people at a crossroads in their lives, it was warmly received by critics, topped the UK Americana chart, and appeared on numerous best-of country lists at the end of the year. She signed with Fat Possum for 2018’s May Your Kindness Remain which again got glowing notices, and garnered her International Artist of the Year at the UK Americana Awards. In 2020 she delivered Old Flowers, a selection of songs devoted to the end of a relationship. The record was nominated for "Best Americana Album" at the 2021 Grammy Awards, and Andrews returned the following year with Loose Future.
