Biography

Tygers of Pan Tang is a celebrated English heavy metal band. The group formed in Whitley Bay, England, in 1978. They're recognized as part of the initial new wave of British heavy metal movement, alongside other notable bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Mötorhead. The original line-up comprised guitarist Robb Weir, bassist Richard "Rocky" Laws, vocalist Jess Cox, and drummer Brian Dick. After several successful singles, the band released their debut album, Wild Cat, in 1980, which peaked at Number 18 on the UK Albums Chart. Personnel changes ensued, including the addition of John Sykes as a second guitarist and Persian Risk vocalist Jon Deverill replacing Jess Cox. The band released their second album, Spellbound, in 1981, followed by Crazy Nights later that same year, and The Cage in 1982. Due to a dispute with MCA, their record label, the group disbanded in 1982. They regrouped in 1985 with a new lineup and released two more albums, The Wreck-Age and Burning in the Shade, before disbanding again. The band had another resurrection in 1999, with Weir as the sole original member, and continued releasing albums, including Mystical in 2000 and Noises in the Cathouse in 2004. Despite undergoing more lineup changes, Tygers of Pan Tang persisted in releasing albums through the 2010s and into the 2020s. Their thirteenth album, Bloodlines, saw the light in 2023 and debuted at Number 89 on the German Top 100.
