Biography

Indian vocalist Neeti Mohan won the global singing competition Popstars in 2003, kicking off an award-winning career as a reality TV personality, solo artist, and Bollywood playback singer. She was born in Delhi, India, on November 18, 1979, and raised in a family that included choreographer Shakti Mohan and dancer Mukti Mohan. Formally trained in voice and dance, she was recruited to join the short-lived pop band Aasma following her Posters victory. Although the band opened for Bryan Adams, Aasma's time in the spotlight proved to be brief, and Neeti Mohan focused on her dancing carer after the group folded during the mid-2000s. She then made her Bollywood debut with 2012's Student of the Year, earning a Filmfare Award for her performance of the song "Ishq Wala Love." Mohan received a second Filmfare Award that same year for "Jiya Re," which appeared on the Jab Tak Hai Jaan soundtrack. From there, her career blossomed to include popular releases like "Tune Maari Entriyaan" (from 2014's Gunday) and the soundtrack to 2015's Bombay Velvet (which featured six jazz-influenced songs by Mohan). "Sau Aasmaan," a popular track from the film Baar Baar Dekho, earned her a Filmfare Award nomination for "Best Female Playback Singer" in 2016, and Mohan spent the final months of that year appearing as a judge in the Indian version of The Voice. She remained one of the busiest vocalist in the Indian film industry through the end of the decade and into the early 2020s, singing memorable songs like "Walla Walla" (from 2019's Pagalpanti), "Yaara Rang Bhula De Rang" (from 2020's web series No. 1 Yaari), and "Chinta Na Kar" (from 2021's Hungama 2).
