Biography

Tyler Childers is a country singer from the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky. He is noted for his love of bluegrass and his authentic songs of working-class hardship.

He grew up in Lawrence County, Kentucky, where his father was a strip miner and his mother a nurse. He played guitar from a young age, influenced by 1970s country and bluegrass records. After moving to Lexington, Kentucky, he played with the band The Food Stamps.

In 2011 he self-released the album 'Bottles & Bibles', while working on landscaping odd jobs and couch surfing. It featured a series of songs about getting by, exemplified by the opening track 'Hard Times'.

His talent attracted the interest of country/Americana star Sturgill Simpson after they were introduced by drummer Miles Miller. Childers' breakthrough album 'Purgatory', released in 2017, was produced by Simpson with help from Johnny Cash's engineer David Ferguson. Simpson also played guitar and sang on the album.

In 2018 Childers reissued two live EPs recorded in 2013 as 'Live On Red Barn Radio I & II'. In 2019 Childers supported Willie Nelson and John Price on tour before releasing the album 'Country Squire', featuring the singles 'House Fire' and 'All Your'n'.
