Canadian country singer Colter Wall's stark, dusty Americana comes full of grit and loneliness and nods back to the likes of Guy Clark, Waylon Jennings, and Townes Van Zandt. The son of politician Brad Wall, he was born on June 27, 1995, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, and started writing songs after hearing Bob Dylan's track "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" at the age of 13. Obsessed with the roots of delta bluesmen, folk ramblers, and country troubadours, he dropped out of college and released his debut EP Imaginary Appalachia in 2015, when he was just 19 years old. Wall showcased a mix of murder ballads, autobiographical songwriting, and twanging blues on his self-titled debut album, which was released in 2017 and earned its creator a reputation as one of the great new voices in alternative country music. His second album, Songs of the Plains, followed in 2018, reaching number 36 on the Canadian Albums chart and number 7 on the American Top Folk Albums chart. Two years later, Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs gave Colter his first Number 1 release on the UK Country Albums chart. Wall followed this 2020 release with 2023's Little Songs, which debuted at number 75 on the Billboard 200 and number 17 on the Top Country Albums chart in America.
