Originally from Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Jey Brownie grew up in a musical environment with a musician father, Koffi Olomidé's guitarist Fofo Tati Vangu, known as Fofo le Collégien. He began singing in the church choir at the age of eleven, before taking up rap. Influenced by Congolese rumba, American pop, R&B and rap, and encouraged by his father who accompanies him, Jey Brownie releases his first tracks in 2019 and continues during the Covid-19 pandemic, before offering his first album Exorde (2022), bringing together old and new tracks. The same year, his track "Movie", featuring collaborations with Flem KGB and Freeze Corleone, attracts attention on social networks, but it's with the album in association with the first, Fait Divers (2023), that Jey Brownie gains international notoriety thanks to the viral hit "GTB", acclaimed on numerous listening platforms across Europe and ranking in the official lists in France (#7), Switzerland (#47) and Belgium (#27). On the strength of this success, which extends as far as Asia, Jey Brownie is approached by rappers Araujo, Carbonne, Guy2Bezbar, Ocevne, Kanoé and Ibepds, before inviting Dinos, Lujipeka, The Doug and Zamdane to join him on his third album Mélodie Céleste (2024), which reaches No. 96 in the French sales and listening charts on its release.
