Musician, singer, and songwriter Rafet El Roman was born Rafet Yaşdut in Uzunköprü, Edime, Turkey on August 25, 1968. He spent the first seven years of his life living in Uzunköprü with his grandmother before moving to Germany to join the rest of his family. Interested in pursuing a career in entertainment, he began writing lyrics at the age of 16 before pursuing a career in acting. In 1987, he starred in the fantasy film Defender, which helped him to understand the art of filmmaking. At the same time, he also explored his musical interests and continued to write his own songs. Rafet El Roman earned a Best of the Year award from Saarlaendischer Rundfunk Radio in 1992, followed two years later by a Media Artist Award at the Frankfurt Cultural Festival. He left Germany and returned to Turkey, where he released his debut album, Gençliğin Gözyaşı, in 1995. The album was a huge success and included the singles “Sorma Neden,” “Amerika,” and “Seni Seviyorum.” His debut was followed by En Güzel Günler Senin Olsun (1997), and the hit album Hayat Hüzünlü (1999). With his music career in full swing, he returned to films and starred in the movie Offside in 2000 before returning his focus to music. In 2000, he founded RER, a production company aimed at helping develop new talent. Rafet El Roman continued releasing successful albums including Hanım Eli (2001), Aşk Nr. 5 (2002), Sürgün (2004), Kalbimin Sultanı (2005), Sevgiye Zaman Ver (2011), Mecnun (2016), and Sırrına Eremeyiz (2021).
