Biography

Itzy are an all-female K-pop group who were formed in Seoul, South Korea in 2019. All of the girls from the band had previously appeared on South Korean TV audition shows including K-pop Star and Sixteen. In addition, most of the band (except Lia) appeared as part of a larger group in the JYP Entertainment show Stray Kids in 2017. JYP announced the debut of Itzy in January 2019, having previously promoted highly successful K-pop girl groups including Wonder Girls (the first K-pop artist to appear on the US Billboard Hot 100) and Twice (the highest selling K-pop girl group of 2016). In February 2019, Itzy debuted with It'z Different, a two-track release containing the singles “Dalla Dalla” and “Want It?.” The musical production for “Dalla Dalla” draws from a variety of EDM styles including future house, trap, and dubstep, while the lyrics (in a mix of English and Korean) advocate loving yourself and being proud of the ways in which you're different. This empowering message helped the band break records for the fastest growing K-pop debut on video-sharing platforms, with the video for “Dalla Dalla” gaining over 14 million views in one day. The single peaked at Number 2 on the South Korean singles chart and was performed by the band in several music television competitions, winning them first place in episodes of Show! Music Core and the influential M Countdown. Preceded by the single “Icy,” which reached the top of the K-pop Hot 100, their first EP It'z Icy saw the light in July 2019 and bowed at Number 3 on the Gaon Albums Chart. Following a tour throughout Asia and the United States, Itzy returned in 2020 with a second EP titled It’z Me, their first Number 1 in the domestic charts. That year, they repeated the feat with the EP Not Shy, which shot straight to the top of the charts in South Korea. In 2021, Itzy successfully crossed over into the Japanese market with the EP What’z Itzy and finally released their debut full-length Crazy in Love, setting a new record for the group by debuting at Number 11 on the Billboard 200.
