Biography

Yasin, aka Yasin Byn, aka Yasin the Don is the stage name of Yasin Abdullahi Mahamoud (born on January 11, 1998), a Swedish rapper of Somali descent hailing from Rinkeby, part of the Million Programme housing project in Northern Stockholm. Mahamoud’s infatuation with hip-hop started at a very young age, making DIY videos with his friends from childhood and joining hip-hop collective Byn Block Entertainment, which would later be known as GhettoSuperstars. In 2015, he made his official debut with the single “Yasin,” which was followed by “Trakten min” (2016), “Bara om jag känner för det” (2017), and “Hey (Rinkeby)” (2017), all of which had enormous repercussion in the Swedish underground hip-hop scene. Following the release of the singles “Chicago,” “Bon Voyage,” and “Kevin Gates” in 2018, Mahamoud was incarcerated for possession of firearms but was eventually released in November, 2019 after serving two-thirds of his sentence. Shortly after regaining his freedom, the MC came back with the EP Handen Under Mona Lisas Kjol (Pt:1) (2019), which went straight to the top of the Swedish Album Charts propelled by the Number 1 hit “XO,” featuring Dree Low. In the wake of the new decade, Mahamoud delivered yet another chart-topper with his full-length debut, 98.01.11 (2020), and More to Life (2020), which reached the top of Sverigetopplistan’s Weekly Albums List only a week and a half after its release.
