Biography

Genesis Owusu is an Australian singer, rapper and producer, known for his unique blend of hip-hop, funk, and soul. Born in Koforidua, Ghana on April 17, 1998 and raised in Canberra, Australia, Owusu began his music career as a teenager, honing his craft as a rapper and producer. Releasing his debut EP Cardrive in 2017 to critical acclaim, his single “Sideways” followed soon after, receiving considerable attention on national radio station Triple J with 2019 double single, "WUTD"/“Vultures”, earning him an ARIA nomination for best R&B/Soul Release. Owusu’s debut album, Smiling With No Teeth appeared two years later and was immediately hailed as resounding success. Characterised by its sharp, socially conscious lyrics and its genre-bending sound, the album charted in the top 10, earning him multiple awards including Album of the Year as well as Best Record at the Rolling Stone Australia Awards and the coveted Australian Music Prize; solidifying his place as one of Australia's leading hip-hop artists. Embracing a new artistic persona, in July 2022, Owusu released popular non-album singles “GTFO” and “Get Inspired” , the latter receiving airplay in the United States, ranking in the Top 40 Adult Alternative charts in January, 2023.
