Deadletter are a UK-based post-punk sextet formed in 2020, known for their sharp lyrics and high-energy performances. Hailing from North Yorkshire, but based in South London, the band consists of Zac Lawrence (vocals), Will King (bass), James Bates (drums), Poppy Richler (saxophone), Alfie Husband (guitar), and George Ullyott (guitar). With a sound that blends raw post-punk aggression with funk-driven basslines, saxophone flourishes, and angular guitar riffs, Deadletter have quickly established themselves as one of the most exciting acts in the modern post-punk revival. Their music is characterized by its tense, wiry instrumentation paired with Lawrence’s biting vocals, which tackle issues like social unrest, political disillusionment, and the absurdity of modern life. Drawing inspiration from post-punk pioneers like Gang of Four and The Fall, as well as newer acts in the UK’s thriving post-punk scene, Deadletter delivers songs that are both thought-provoking and visceral. Since forming, the band have made a significant impact with their live shows, earning a reputation for intense and captivating performances. Tracks like "Fit for Work" (2020) and "Hero" (2022) showcase their ability to craft songs that are rhythmically complex yet grounded in the urgency of punk, while their use of saxophone adds a unique texture to their sound. Despite forming during the tumultuous year of 2020, Deadletter has rapidly gained attention, earning spots on festival lineups and supporting prominent acts in the post-punk scene. They put themselves on the map in 2024 with their debut major-label full-length, Hysterical Strength.
