Anthony Peter Hatch, born June 30, 1939, in Pinner, Middlesex, England, is an English composer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and record producer. He began working in London's Tin Pan Alley in 1955 and entered the recording industry as a songwriter under the pseudonym Mark Anthony, achieving a UK top 10 hit with Garry Mills' single “Look for a Star” in 1960 while working for Top Rank Records. Joining Pye Records, Hatch became the regular producer and songwriter for Petula Clark, writing and producing hits including “Downtown”, which topped charts globally in 1965, and “My Love”, which reached Number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. His composition “I Love the Little Things”, performed by Matt Monro, placed second at the Eurovision Song Contest 1964. Hatch released his debut solo instrumental studio album The Downtown Sound of Tony Hatch in 1965. He composed the theme for the television series Crossroads in 1964, and after marrying songwriter Jackie Trent in 1967, the duo co-wrote the theme for the television series Neighbours in 1985. Hatch was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2013 and appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2020.
