Unter der Leitung von Dane Bowers wurden Another Level als Urban-Pop-Gruppe konzipiert – härter, aggressiver und weniger bieder als die meisten der damals beliebten, blitzsauberen Boybands mit Reha-Augen. Während Gruppen wie Take That und Boyzone die harmlosen Teenager-Idole jener Zeit waren, standen Another Level mit ihrer selbstbewussten, straßenklugen Mischung aus R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop und Dance-Musik für ein gefährlicheres Konzept. Die Gruppe wurde ursprünglich vom Musikmanager Nick Raphael zusammengestellt, der seine Verbindungen zu Roc-A-Fella Records nutzte, um Jay-Z und Ghostface Killah als Gastmusiker für das mit Platin ausgezeichnete Debütalbum Another Level (1998) zu gewinnen. Daraus ging die riesige Nummer-1-Single in Großbritannien „Freak Me“ hervor, und die Band landete anschließend sieben Top-10-Singles und ging mit Janet Jackson auf Tournee. Auch ihr zweites Album „Nexus“ (1999) schnitt gut ab und erreichte Platz 7, doch die Gruppe löste sich im Jahr 2000 auf. Dane Bowers arbeitete daraufhin mit den Truesteppers am Hit „Buggin“ zusammen und kooperierte mit Victoria Beckham bei „Out of Your Mind“ zusammenarbeitete, bevor er in die Welt des Reality-Fernsehens wechselte und bei „Celebrity Big Brother“ sowie „Come Dine with Me“ auftrat. Im Jahr 2021 kam Another Level für einen einmaligen Auftritt beim Kisstory Festival wieder zusammen. Nachdem sie eingeladen worden waren, als Headliner beim ersten RnB Nation Festival im Jahr 2024 aufzutreten, nahmen Dane Bowers und Mark Baron die neuen Mitglieder Shaun Hoyte und Greg Costa in die Band auf.
