Ricky Lamar Hawk wurde am 22. Januar 1998 in Conyers (Georgia) geboren. Mit siebzehn Jahren erlangte er plötzliche Berühmtheit, als sich zweieinhalb Millionen US-Amerikaner das Video zu seinem Song "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" auf dem YouTube-Kanal des angehenden Rappers, der inzwischen als Silentó bekannt ist, ansahen. Der rasante Erfolg spiegelt sich darin wider, dass sein Song Anfang 2015 auf Platz 3 der Billboard-Charts landete. Kanada, Australien, Großbritannien, Deutschland und Frankreich erliegen abwechselnd seinem makellos frischen Pop-Rap. Silentó wurde für diesen Song für die Kids Choice Awards nominiert.
