Biography

From an early age, Nick Bracegirdle (aka Chicane) was recording dance music demos to send to record labels. With little success in attracting a recording deal Bracegirdle launched Modena Records and with Leo Elstob under the guise of Disco Citizens released the single Right Here Right Now in 1995. A year later he released his first single under the Chicane banner, Offshore, hitting Number 12 on the UK singles chart. The single also became an Ibiza hit, proving a popular choice for DJs and included in the many Ibiza-inspired compilation albums released that year. Further singles, Sunstroke and Offshore 97, were also hits before Chicane's first album Far From The Maddening Crowds was released in September 1997. His biggest hits, however, were still to come... Saltwater was released in 1999 with Clannad's Mary Brennan reprising her vocals from the group's Theme From Harry's Game. It hit Number 6 in the UK charts and topped every dance chart in the UK. Surpassing this was his collaboration with Bryan Adams on Don't Give Up which hit Number 1 on the UK charts and went silver. Chicane's second album Behind The Sun also went gold. After a brief hiatus, during which Bracegirdle was embroiled in legal action with label Xtravanganza, he returned in 2006 with Stoned In Love featuring Tom Jones on vocals.
