Part Cree Indian, Shania Twain had a tough upbringing in Timmins, Ontario; living for a while in a homeless shelter and singing in local bars from an early age trying to make ends meet. When her mother and stepfather were killed in a car crash she stayed home to look after her younger siblings but eventually resumed her singing career with a name change to Shania (an Ojibwa Indian word for "on my way"), making her self-titled debut album in 1993.
Her big break came when she started writing songs with rock producer Mutt Lange - later her husband - who also produced her breakthrough second album 'The Woman in Me' in 1995. The follow-up 'Come On Over' established her as a major country-rock crossover act, topping the album charts in the UK and US and producing the smash hits 'That Don't Impress Me Much' and 'Man! I Feel Like a Woman'. More hits followed into the late-'90s with 'You're Still the One' and 'From This Moment On', and into the 2000s with 'Forever and for Always', 'I'm Gonna Getcha Good!', 'Up' and 'Ka-Ching!'. Her 'Greatest Hits' album was released in 2004 and featured hits plus three brand new tracks. After the break-up of her marriage in 2008 Twain announced that her next album would be delayed while she sorted out things in her personal life.
Her first single in six years came in 2011 in the shape of 'Today Is Your Day' came with the announcement that she was commencing a two-year headline gig at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. She began work on her fifth album and in 2015 announced that she was embarking on her first tour in more than a decade. 'Life's About to Get Good' was released as the lead single to her fifth album in 2017 followed by 'Swingin' With My Eyes Closed' and the album 'Now' later in the year.
