School pals Isaac Slade and Joe King in 2002 would meet up to jam with each other and were soon joined by Ben Wysocki, David Welsh and Slade's younger brother Caleb - although his involvement was short-lived after being forced out soon after. The Fray, as they started to be known, began developing a sound that was to prove popular and released their first record in the form of the EP, Movement, in 2002, while a second EP, Reason, in 2003 gave the band a local following in their native Denver. A deal with Epic Records soon followed in 2004 and the band began working on their debut album, How To Save A Life, which was released in 2005. The first single release from the album, Over My Head (Cable Car) gave the band a Top 40 hit, but it was the release of the title track shortly after that blasted the band to international prominence and How To Save A Life became one of the biggest hits of 2006. The single reached the Top 5 in various territories including Australia, Canada, Spain, Italy and the UK and the Top 3 of the Billboard Hot 100. The band followed up their success with release of sophomore effort The Fray in 2009, which went straight to the top of the Billboard charts and gold in the US, Australia and Canada.
