When his 2004 album Für Alle went to number one in the German charts, Laith Al-Deen cemented his reputation as Germany's answer to Italian superstar Zucchero. The son of a German mother and an Iraqi father, Al-Deen's career began as a singer in the German band Vega. After touring with the band the singer teamed up with producer Stevie B-Zet to record his first solo album Ich Will Nur Wissen (I Only Want To Know) and during his 16 year career has since gone on to release eleven albums and an 26 singles. Staunchly proud of his German origins, Al-Deen stubbornly refuses to compromise his musical style and apart from two English-titled singles Lay Your Love On Me and If I Ever Lose My Faith, all his recordings are in the German language. When he was nominated for a Comet Award by the German broadcaster Viva, Al-Deen famously refused the nomination stating he only sought recognition for German language recordings and didn't seek international recognition for his work. His wide commercial appeal is demonstrated by the the single Höher (Higher), taken from his fourth album, being short-listed as one of Germany's entries into the Eurovision Song Contest.
