Born to Irish parents, Shayne Ward began his music career in a vocal trio called Destiny with Tracy Murphy and Tracey Lyle, performing at pubs, clubs and weddings. In 2002 he entered TV talent show Popstars: The Rivals - the show that created Girls Aloud - and managed to reach the final 30. In 2005 he entered the second series of The X Factor and, mentored by Louis Walsh, went on to beat Journey South and Andy Abraham in the final. His first single That's My Goal became the UK Christmas Number 1, selling 1.3 million, while the follow-up No Promises made it to Number 2 and his self-titled debut album topped the UK album charts. Third single Stand By Me flopped but Ward was considered as a replacement for Jason Orange when he threatened to quit Take That. His career was interrupted by throat problems but he made a triumphant return with a new album Breathless, including a new single, the double A-side of If That's OK With You and No U Hang Up. In 2008 he concentrated on developing his live act, which included a support tour with Take That.
