Biografie

Los Angeles, California-based jazz / pop singer/songwriter Marley Munroe is better known by her stage name Lady Blackbird. While relatively new to the music scene under her Lady Blackbird guise, she has been writing and recording since she was a teenager. As Marley Munroe, she entered the music business working with Christian rap / rock trio DC Talk and continued working with bandmember TobyMac then the group went on hiatus. Realizing that she didn’t want to continue working in the Christian music industry, she broke away and, at the age of 18, began working with artists such as Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Sam Watters, Louis Biancaniello, Tricky Stewart, and The Heavyweights. She signed a production deal which led to her recording several solo tracks including the single “Boomerang” in 2013. Connecting with Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Chris Seefried, Marley Munroe began to make her transformation into Lady Blackbird, a name inspired by the Nina Simone song “Blackbird”. Inspired by vocalists like Billie Holiday, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, and Gladys Knight, Marley Munroe’s transition into Lady Blackbird was complete with the release of her debut album Black Acid Soul, which features the critically acclaimed single “Collage” and her cover of Simone’s “Blackbird.” The album, produced by Chris Seefried, features musical assistance from keyboardist Deron Johnson, trumpeter Troy ‘Trombone Shorty’ Andrews, double bassist Jon Flaugher, and drummer Jimmy Paxson.
