Shreya Ghoshal – born in Murshidabad, India on March 12, 1984 – is an award-winning Bollywood playback singer (she provides the singing voice for the actors in Bollywood films). At a young age, she was inspired by music that she heard including the songs featured in Bollywood films. She began learning music at the age of four and two years later, began formal studies in classical music. By the age of 16, she entered and won top prize on the televised talent show Sa Re Ga Ma. She released several albums during this period including Bendhechhi Beena (1998), Ekti Katha (1999), and Mukhor Porag (2000). Shreya Ghoshal made her playback singing debut in the 2002 film Devdas, which earned her several awards including a Filmfare’s Best Female Playback Singer of the Year award. Providing vocals in several different Indian languages (Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Malayalam, etc.), she became a Bollywood playback sensation over the next 20 years. During the course of her phenomenally successful career, she has toured around the world, received many awards, hosted and/or performed on television shows such as X-Factor, and was even honored by the US state of Ohio, who declared June 26, 2010, as Shreya Ghoshal Day. She has released more than 20 solo albums – mostly digital – including Swapner Pakha (2003), Ustad & the Divas (2006), Humnasheen (2014), and Abelay (2019). Her hit songs from Bollywood films include “Saibo” featuring Sachin-Jigar and Tochi Raina (2011), “Hans Mat Pagli” with Sonu Nigam (2017), “Pal” with Javed-Mohsin and Arijit Singh (2018), and “Neenaade Naa” with Thaman S and Armaan Malik (2020). Shreya Ghoshal is so popular that, in 2017. She was the first Indian/Bollywood singer to have her own wax figure in Madam Tussauds Museum in Delhi, India.
