Biography

Survivor are an American hard rock band formed in Chicago in 1978 by keyboard player Jim Peterik, guitarist Frankie Sullivan, singer Dave Bickler, bassist Dennis Keith Johnson and drummer Gary Smith. Sullivan has remained with the group to the present day with other key artists who have been members including singers Jimi Jamison and Robin McAuley and drummer Kyle Wooding. They disbanded in 1988 until 1993 when they returned with the current line-up of Sullivan along with singer Cameron Barton, bassist Billy Ozzello, keyboard player Jeffrey Bryan and drummer Ryan Sullivan.

Their biggest hit came in the 1980s with the single 'Eye of the Tiger' which topped Billboard's Hot 100 and Mainstream Rock Songs Chart in 1982. The theme tune for Sylvester Stallone's 1982 box-office smash 'Rocky III', it was written by Peterik and Sullivan. Nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for Best Original Song, it won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By a Duo Or Group With Vocal and has featured on the soundtrack of many television shows for more than 30 years.

Their eponymous debut album reached number 169 on the Billboard 200 in 1980 and 'Premonition' (1981) peaked at number 82. The album 'Eye of the Tiger' with the hit title track went to number two on the Billboard 200 in 1982. 'Caught in the Game' (1983) reached number 82 and 'When Seconds Count' number 49. Jamison sang on the theme song from the 1984 film 'The Karate Kid', 'The Moment of Truth', which went to number 63 on the Hot 100. His first album with the band was 'Vital Signs', which peaked at number 16 on the Billboard 200 in 1985. The track 'I Can't Hold Back' topped the Mainstream Rock Songs Chart and 'High On You' went to number eight.
