Tarik Johnston (April 12, 1988), aka Rvssian, is a producer and vocalist from Jamaica. He studied piano and drums as a child and after leaving school he became interested in production. He attracted interest with his first release “Liberty Riddim” in 2008. His breakthrough came when he released the hit “Life Sweet” with Vybz Kartel in 2010. He originally performed under the moniker of “Russian” but changed it to “Rvssian” to facilitate online searches. Rvssian released a number of hit singles with Vybz Kartel such as “Straight Jeans and Fitted” (2010) and continued to work with him even after Kartel was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder. “Hi” in 2013 and “Highest Level” and “Kremlin” in 2017 were released while Kartel was in prison. He has produced songs for Shaggy, Sean Paul, and Bad Buddy. Rvssian is also the founder of Head Concussion Records, which has released material by Vybz Kartel, J Capri, Demarco, and Blak Ryno. He sang on Farruko's 2017 Latin crossover hit “Krippy Kush” and in 2018 on Farruko and J Balvin’s “Ponle.” Rvssian is now based in Miami, USA, and his production style has continued to be influenced by the city's heavy bass sounds. In 2019, he released the single “B11” with Myke Towers, Darrell, and Zion & Lennox. Rvssian’s glossy brand of Latin urban pop continued to make waves in the mainstream music scene with collaborative singles such as “No Me Ame” (2020) with Anuel AA and Juice Wrld and “Nostálgico” (2021), a catchy reggaeton-tinged track featuring Rauw Alejandro and American singer Chris Brown that reached Number 13 on the Spanish Singles Chart.
