Simon Cowell has made a career out of disdainfully breaking the dreams of many a wannabe pop star, but when Calum Scott gave a stunning rendition of Robyn's ballad 'Dancing On My Own' at an audition for 'Britain's Got Talent', even Cowell had to stand in awe. Pressing his golden buzzer to automatically send Scott into the semi-final of the TV talent contest, Cowell declared - "I've never, ever, in all the years I've done this show, heard a guy with the talent that you've got. Seriously."

Scott had been performing in a Maroon 5 tribute act in Hull and had released one single with electro-pop duo The Experiment before entering the competition with his sister in 2015. He went on to sing Jermaine Stewart's 'We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off' and Rihanna's 'Diamonds' in the show finale, but ended up sixth as dog trainer Jules O'Dwyer and her border collie Matisse were eventually crowned champions of the series. It was Scott's cover of 'Dancing On My Own' that became a big success, though, and by selling over a million copies, it reached number two in the UK charts, became the most downloaded track of the summer and was nominated for a Brit Award.

He also teamed up with Brazilian crooner Ivete Sangalo to record 'Transformer', which was released as the official anthem of the Paralympic Games in 2016 and landed a deal with Capitol Records before duetting with Leona Lewis on new single 'You Are the Reason'. Publicly coming out as gay further helped Scott develop as a songwriter, and in 2018 he released debut album 'Only Human' featuring a host of rousing, blue-eyed soul anthems and heartfelt, tearjerking ballads that proved a perfect fit for Scott's powerful, silky-smooth vocals.
