Motograter, an American nu-metal band, was formed in 1995 in Santa Barbara, California. Known for their unique instrument, the "motograter," designed by Bruce "Grater" Butler, the group released two EPs, Hugh Chardon (1999) and Indy (2000), before signing with Sever Records in 2001. Their debut album, Motograter, was released in 2003, featuring the single "Down", which appeared in the video game NASCAR Thunder 2004. The band toured extensively, including a stint at Ozzfest 2003, and were voted the best new band of 2003 by Hit Parader. After a hiatus starting in 2005, the group disbanded following a one-off reunion show in 2006. They reformed in 2008 with a new lineup featuring Michael "Angel" Woodruff on vocals and released the EP Pre-Release (2009). In 2017, they released their second album, Desolation.
