Biografie
Celebrated as icons of the progressive metal movement, Fates Warning joined groups like Queensrÿche and Dream Theater in combining the aggressive punch of heavy metal with the complexity of progression rock. The group was formed in 1982 in Hartford, Connecticut, with John Arch serving as Fates Warning's original singer. Arch left the group in 1987, following the release of albums like the band's 1984 debut, Night on Bröcken, and their 1986 breakthrough, Awaken the Guardian. His successor, frontman Ray Alder, made his debut with 1988's No Exit and remained with the band throughout the following decades, joining guitarist Jim Matheos as one of the band's longest-running members. Although 1991's Parallels marked Fates Warning's commercial peak, the group continued recording new material and carrying the torch for progressive metal well into the 21st century, with 2020's Long Day Good Night marking their 13th studio release.
