Biography

Alice Deejay's hypnotic Eurotrance anthem "Better Off Alone" soundtracked an entire generation of music fans. The 1998 track was a Top 10 hit all over Europe – going platinum in the UK and peaking at Number 2 – and charted at Number 27 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The group – founded in Amsterdam in 1998 and produced by Wessel van Diepen, Dennis van den Driesschen, Sebastiaan Molijn and Eelke Kalberg (Pronti & Kalmani), with original vocalist Judith Anna Pronk – enjoyed further chart success with their second single "Back in My Life." The track was released in November 1999 and reached Number 1 in Norway and Top 10 in a host of other European countries, including Denmark, Sweden and the UK. 2000 saw the release of the project's first and only album, Who Needs Guitars Anyway?, which made it into the UK Top 10 and spawned three more Top 20 singles: "Will I Ever," "The Lonely One" and "Celebrate Our Love." Alice Deejay went on hiatus in 2002 but re-emerged in 2014 under the name Alice DJ, complete with a new vocalist and two new dancers following the original vocalist Judith Anna Pronk's retirement from singing. In 2011, "Better Off Alone" was given a haunting new lease of life when it was remixed by witch house pioneers Salem.
