Biografie

Saïd M'Roumbaba (January 14, 1979), aka Soprano, is a French hip-hop performer with a background from the Union of the Comoros, the former French colony in the Indian Ocean. He gained fame in 2002 as a member of the Marseille rap group Psy 4 de la Rime and also pursued a solo career from 2006 with the release of the mixtape Psychanalyse Avant l'Album. His 2007 debut solo studio album, Puisqu'il Faut Vivre, went to Number 2 on the French Albums Chart and the track “Ferme les yeux et Imagine-toi” featuring Blacko reached Number 3 on Billboard's France Digital Song Sales Chart. He put out the concert album Live au Dôme de Marseille in 2008 and featured on Léa Castel's “Derniere chance” (2008), which peaked at Number 4 on the France Digital Song Sales Chart. Following another mixtape, De Puisqu'il Faut Vivre à la Colombe, his second studio release, La Colombe (2010), topped the French Albums Chart and featured guest spots by Indila and Amadou & Mariam. In the years following his mainstream breakthrough, Soprano managed to get five albums into the French Top 10—Le Corbeau (2011), E=2MC's (2012), Cosmopolitanie (2014), L'Everest (2016), and Phoenix (2018)—and collaborated with the biggest names in French hip hop. By 2019, Soprano had become one of the major players in the industry and even entered the Musée Grévin wax museum in Paris. More than a decade after reaching a milestone in his career with La Colombe, the Gallic MC scored his second Number 1 record with 2021’s Chasseur d'Étoiles, an 80s-inspired album that featured cameos by MC Solaar, Alonzo, Jul, and SCH.
