Biografie

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Ned Doheny was born in Malibu, California on March 26, 1948. While he has recorded several solo albums, he is better known as a songwriter and his work with high profile artists such as Don Henley, Glenn Frey, J.D. Souther, Jackson Browne, and Linda Ronstadt. Ned Doheny formed a short-lived trio with ‘Mama’ Cass Elliott and former Traffic member Dave Mason. While the trio wasn’t a big success, Dave Mason covered Ned Doheny’s song “On and On” in 1971. The first artist signed to David Geffen's Asylum label, he released his self-titled album in 1973. He left Asylum and signed with Columbia, releasing the Hard Candy album in 1976. The album remains his most popular solo release and is now acknowledged as the prototype for the yacht rock genre. His solo releases have featured musical support from his many musical friends including Graham Nash, the Tower of Power horns, Chuck Findley, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Linda Ronstadt, Steve Cropper, Tom Scott and David Foster. Further albums by Ned Doheny include Prone (1979), Life After Romance (1988), Love Like Ours (1991) and Between Two Worlds (1993). After a long break, he returned in 2010 with the album The Darkness Beyond the Fire. In 2014, the Numero Group released the Separate Oceans compilation, which consisted of previously unreleased recordings from his 1970s heyday. As a songwriter, Ned Doheny has written or co-written hits for artists such as Average White Band, David Cassidy, Maxine Nightingale, Chaka Khan, and many others.
