Bounty Killer is one of the colorful characters that dancehall generated in the 1990s. Although he was born into a musical background - his father owned a sound system - Bounty Killer was drawn to Jamaican gang culture, and willingly became a spokesman for Kingston's young gangsters. Initially under the thumb of King Jammy, Bounty Killer released the albums Roots, Reality and Culture and Face to Face with Beenie Man in 1994. Influenced by American rap, Bounty Killer went on to collaborate with a number of artists in the genre. His career culminated in 1996 with the formidable My Xperience, featuring Barrington Levy, Busta Rhymes, The Fugees, Jeru the Damaja, Raekwon and Junior Reid. My Xperience spent six months on the Billboard reggae charts and established Bounty Killer as an international star. What followed was less brilliant for an artist who too often allowed violence to interfere with his career and his private life. From then on, Bounty Killer remained mainly a stage attraction.
