Biography

Creed was an American alternative rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1993 by singer and guitarist Scott Stapp, guitarists Mark Tremonti and Brian Brasher, bassist Brian Marshall and percussionist Scott Phillips.

They began performing regionally and after Brasher left in 1995 they continued as a foursome; in 1997 they released their debut album 'My Own Prison which went to number 22 on the Billboard 200. It features hit singles 'What's This Life For' which topped Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs Chart and went to number ten on the Alternative Songs Chart, the title track which peaked at number two on the mainstream chart and number seven on the alternative chart, 'One', which went to number two on both charts and 'Torn' which reached number three on the Alternative Chart. Their 1999 album 'Human Clay' topped the Billboard 200 and produced hit singles including 'With Arms Wide Open', 'Higher' and 'What If'. Their 2001 release 'Weathered' features the number one mainstream hit 'My Sacrifice' which reached number four on the Hot 100.

The band broke up in 2004 and released a 'Greatest Hits' album which peaked at number 15 on the 200. Members pursued solo careers until 2009 when they announced that they would reunite for a tour and another album. 'Full Circle' topped the Hard Rock, Top Rock and Alternative Albums charts and went to number two on the Billboard 200. It features the track 'Overcome' which reached number four on the Mainstream Rock Chart. They toured internationally but internal strife brought about the announced dissolution of the band in 2015. An album titled 'With Arms Wide Open: A Retrospective' went to number 12 on the Hard Rock Chart that year and they did not rule out another reunion at some point.
