Alison Mosshart is one of the 21st century's leading indie-rock frontwomen. Born on November 23, 1978, and raised in Vero Beach, Florida, she launched her career as a member of the punk band Discount, serving as the group's critically-lauded singer from 1995 until 2000. After Discount's breakup, she moved to London and formed a garage-punk duo, The Kills, with British musician Jamie Hince. The Kills showcased their arty, ever-evolving sound on albums like 2003's Keep on Your Mean Side, 2005's No Wow, and 2008's Midnight Boom, becoming cult favorites in America and genuine stars in Europe, where all three albums cracked the Top 100 on the UK charts. The duo's frequent comparisons to The White Stripes proved to be unexpectedly ironic in 2009, when Mosshart teamed up with the band's frontman Jack White to form The Dead Weather. The band's first two albums, 2009's Horehound and 2010's Sea of Cowards, became international hits, cracking the Top 40 in the UK and the Top 10 in America. Mosshart continued performing with both bands during the next decade, releasing a pair of records with The Kills — including the group's highest-charting album yet, 2016's Ash & Ice — and a third album, Dodge & Burn, with The Dead Weather.
