Biografie

The lovechild of singer-songwriters Steve Tannen and Deb Talan, The Weepies are an indie folk-pop husband-wife duo known for their delicate, acoustic stylings and endearing vocal harmonies. Rooted in mutual admiration, the group became a reality in 2001 after Talan attended one of Tannen’s shows in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The duo soon started writing music together and independently released Happiness, their studio debut, in 2003. Following a sold-out show in New York City’s The Living Room, the band was signed to Nettwerk Records in 2005 and released a second album entitled Say I Am You the following year. Recorded entirely in their home studio in Pasadena, California, the LP became the most-downloaded folk album in eight countries as its lead single “World Spins Madly On” topped the US Singles Downloads Chart. Upon their return from a European tour, Tannen and Talan collaborated with Mandy Moore on the singer’s 2007 album Wild Hope. Released shortly after the birth of their son, Hideaway (2008) entered the Billboard Top 200 at Number 31, aided by a series of features in TV series and commercial ads. Fourth album Be My Thrill (2010) marked The Weepies’ return to the stages with several sold-out shows throughout the US and peaked at Number 3 on Billboard’s Top Folk Albums for nine consecutive weeks. After Talan’s recovery from breast cancer treatment, the band headed into the studio to record Sirens (2015), which featured a star-studded lineup of musicians such as guitarist Gerry Leonard, bassist Tony Levin, and drummer Matt Chamberlain.
