Biografie

An electro-pop diva with big hair and a raspy, soulful wail, Taylor Dayne scored a string of big hits and notched up record sales of over 75 million during the 1980s and '90s. Raised in Baldwin, New York, she began singing with local rock bands after leaving high school and recorded singles under the name Les Lee before getting signed to Arista Records and turned into a glitzy, sexy front woman.

Mixing soft rock attitude with stuttering, drum machines and rousing keyboard lines, her debut single 'Tell It to My Heart' became an instant hit in 1987, making the top ten in the US, UK and across Europe. Dayne went from singing in Russian restaurants in Long Island to huge pop stardom and albums 'Tell It to My Heart' and 'Can't Fight Fate' both went double platinum as her first seven singles all made the US top ten. Most successful were the crooning ballad 'I'll Always Love You', sultry, synth-pop strut 'Don't Rush Me' and US number one hit 'Love Will Lead You Back', and Dayne went on to open for Michael Jackson on his record breaking world tour in 1988.

In the 1990s she moved with the times and embraced a funkier R&B style on 'Soul Dancing', while her surprising cover of Barry White's track 'Can't Get Enough of Your Love' became a success in Asia and Australia. She also co-wrote the song 'Whatever You Want' for Tina Turner, acted in several independent films and took time out to raise a family, before returning to music with 2008 album 'Satisfied'.
